The Guardian | Listen and learn: the hidden secret to spotting a liar by Holly Watt AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. The article explains that humans are surprisingly good at detecting deception just by hearing a voice, because speech carries a wealth of subtle cues about physiology, emotion, and intent that our brains process almost instantaneously. Research by neuroscientists such as Sophie Scott and Silke Paulmann shows that vocal characteristics reveal a speaker’s age, sex, health, accent, and even stress levels, while studies by Dora Giorgianni demonstrate that people achieve far higher lie‑detection accuracy when they listen without visual information—61 % versus 35 %—since visual cues overload our limited attention and memory. Although certain vocal patterns (e.g., pitch changes or faster speech) can signal stress, there is no single reliable “tell” of lying; instead, our ability to gauge truth relies on a rapid, subconscious integration of many vocal signals, making focused listening a more effective tool than watching facial expressions or body language. This is a coastal glacier in a fjord, not the open "Arctic Ocean" ice pack, though both are experiencing significant loss of ice. Both photos were taken in the same month. #environment #climate #science #history #nature #photo

I started this doc on Netflix and the host says something so stupid that I think, what did he just say? They're climbing a mountain to where this telescope will be and he says when we get to the top of the mountain we'll be above the atmosphere because you need to be above the atmosphere to see. What the what--- ??!! Who did they get to host this #science documentary?

NASA is hard at work preparing for the SkyFall mission on which three helicopters will go to Mars aboard a nuclear-powered spacecraft. A breakthrough in rotor technology will help the helicopters fly in much thinner air than what we have on Earth. @ArsTechnica@flipboard.com has more: https://flip.it/PoomJR #Space #Science #SpaceExploration #NASA #SkyFallMission

#RFKJr on Monday announced initiatives intended to reduce #SSRI use, while attempting to reassure Americans who still “want” [have] to take them. They include reimbursement guidelines for physicians who help patients come off of the medications as well as plans to share data on prescribing trends & an investment in training for #healthcare providers. #MentalHealth #PsychiatricCare #health #PublicHealth #science #medicine

Spring bloom arrived early across much of the United States this year, bringing pretty flowers and trees into view while also handing allergy sufferers an early dose of sneezing, itchy eyes and worse. Another side effect of our changing climate. Read more from @InsideClimateNews@flipboard.com: https://flip.it/0dHE9u #Science #ClimateChange #Health #Allergies
