#linux #microsoft #treiber #pc #bullshit #windows

Just about every consumer facing operating system, search engine and service is using AI now to some extent. I’ve seen folks switching to #openbsd from Linux/Mac/Windows…but what about other services? Proton has AI, and damn near every internet search engine has AI, even the ones that claim to be private and secure. I’d be interested in hearing some realistic tech stacks and workflows that don’t involve tools with AI in them or created with the help of AI. If you are willing to share please comment. #ai #noai #linux #macos #windows

An article has been published[1] explaining how to prevent #Chrome from downloading the #Gemini Nano model on #Windows via a Registry change. But it seems to me that such a method is only effective for as long as Google respects that policy in the Registry, doesn't change its name/path, etc. Instead, has anybody tried creating an empty weights.bin file in the relevant location[2], and then removing all permissions from that file so that Chrome can't read, write, replace, or do anything else with it?

As I was doing the intake for a migration from Windows 11 to a Linux (undecided which, although Mint is leading the charge), yesterday, I got to use Windows 11 for the first time in my life. Now, I heard so many times about just how bad Win11 is, but nothing could have prepared me for the absolute shit show that is Microsoft's modern OS. I honestly feel sorry for anyone who is forced to use it for any reason. Like, I think I might prefer using WindowsME over that. #Windows #Windows11 #Enshittification #LinuxMigration

«Microsoft Edge — Passwörter landen als Klartext im Speicher: Der Edge-Passwort-Manager wirkt sicher - Verschlüsselte Speicherung, von Windows Hello gesichert. I’ve been using Windows for years—it always “just worked” for me. But in 2026, I kept hearing the same thing everywhere: Linux is faster, more private, and gives you more control. So I decided to test it myself. I switched to Linux and used it as my main OS for 30 days. The first few days felt fast and clean… but as time went on, I started noticing things weren’t as simple as Windows. Installing apps wasn’t always straightforward, and plug-and-play didn’t always work I had to set things up manually. But after a week, things started to click. The system stayed fast, no ads, no forced updates—and I actually started enjoying the experience. So… can Linux really replace Windows in 2026? I’ve shared my full experience, including what worked, what didn’t, and who should actually switch.

Is it finally time to switch to Linux? I’m not there yet, but after seeing a lot more interest in Linux over the past couple years while the hate for Microsoft has grown, this summer I want to give it a real shot. Maybe even with the new Framework laptop? I explain why in this month’s recap! https://disconnect.blog/is-it-time-to-start-using-linux/ #tech #linux #microsoft #windows

The annoying thing in Windows that re-enables unpopular settings is called "User Choice Protection Driver" (UCPD.sys) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQUYh4iKsB0 It's original intent was well-meaning: Prevent apps from messing with user defaults, like the browser or installing unwanted extensions or toolbars. Linux doesn't have any of this, AFAIK. Malicious software could change all sorts of user defaults. This could become a real problem with its growing popularity. 🤔 #Windows #UCPD #Linux #CyberSecurity #IT

Just went through and did a fresh VM install of Windows 11 using kvm. That Windows install process is absolutely horrible, the ads, the multiple attempts at selling me a product during install.. I felt so validated for ditching Windows years ago while running this install #winblows #kvm #vm #ubuntu #linux #windows
