It's original intent was well-meaning: Prevent apps from messing with user defaults, like the browser or installing unwanted extensions or toolbars.
Linux doesn't have any of this, AFAIK. Malicious software could change all sorts of user defaults. This could become a real problem with its growing popularity. 🤔
