Just about every consumer facing operating system, search engine and service is using AI now to some extent. I’ve seen folks switching to #openbsd from Linux/Mac/Windows…but what about other services? Proton has AI, and damn near every internet search engine has AI, even the ones that claim to be private and secure. I’d be interested in hearing some realistic tech stacks and workflows that don’t involve tools with AI in them or created with the help of AI. If you are willing to share please comment. #ai #noai #linux #macos #windows

I love how about every 6-9 months my desktop's time machine drive fills up and doesn't want to clean up after itself. Manual intervention is required and I have not had great luck with 'tmutil delete' reliably freeing up space. Erase and start from scratch works though. #sysadmin #macos

We began our careers designing on and for the Mac platform, so it’s always nice to return to our roots. Red Rome Logic recently asked us to come up with some UI ideas for CANCraft, their Mac-based, pro-grade automotive diagnostic software. Taking visual cues from vehicle livery and transit maps, this was a fun project to take for a spin. Need help on a project? https://iconfactory.com #AppDesign #macOS #UI #dev

Kirjautua. Ja odottaa taas sisäänkirjautumista, kun jatkaa. #apple #macos

Did you know your macOS app can extend its functionality to the entire system? System-wide services let users access your app's features from any app via the Services menu - and it's simpler to implement than you'd expect. 🔗: https://nilcoalescing.com/blog/macOSSystemWideServices/ by Natalia Panferova (@natpanferova@mastodon.social) #macOS #Swift #Developer

I got frustrated for the last time with website rendering and UI in Safari, and so in two days this week, I went through two browsers. First I went to Opera, based on using it decades ago, but it was clunky. Then I remember hearing about Vivaldi Browser and wow, I love it! Took hours of work to make these two transitions, but I'm glad I did. #VivaldiWebBrowser #Safari #OperaBrowser #MacOS #iOS

@ppb1701@ppb.social Connect any iPhone to something that monitors traffic — for example, a DNS service such as AdGuard DNS or Control D. You will notice that your iPhone makes more outbound connections than Microsoft Windows 11. Anytime an Apple user tells me that Apple is better for privacy, I can’t help but roll my eyes and think about how they’ve been tricked into believing that. #iPhone #Apple #iOS #macOS

US Pol, Digital Surveillance, OS Level Age Verification, Fascism Hover or focus to reveal Sensitive
There is literally a bipartisan effort by the US government and several state governments to push for OS level age verification. This WILL hurt minorities! This WILL hurt digital freedom! This WILL hurt children! This WILL hurt you! It's digital surveillance. It will be used to track you down, it will be used to to sell you, it will be used to spy on you, it will be used to prosecute you for things you do in private that don't hurt anybody. Call your representatives! E-mail them! Contact them however you can! Tell them to vote no! I don't care if it seems futile! The fascist state will not be defeated just by voting out Republicans! The fascist state is here! It is bipartisan! https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/8250/text #PleaseBoost #OnlinePrivacy #DigitalPrivacy #Computers #Microsoft #Mac #MacOS #Android #iOS #Linux #BSD #Fascism #TechnoFascism

What services/tools are folks using for cross-platform file sharing? My household is cross-platform (wife is on #macOS, I have an old macOS system I keep around, and the rest of my systems are #Linux) and I don't foresee that changing any time soon.

32 years ago I started working on my first browser, Opera. I left Opera in 2011, but two years later I co-founded Vivaldi. Thus I have been making browsers now for 32 years, with a short break there between 2011 and 2013. I have always felt that this work is important and no less today than before as more and more of you see the importance of alternatives to Big Tech. Vivaldi is a European company with headquarters in Norway, servers in Iceland and team in Norway, Iceland, across Europe, Japan and a couple in the US. We try our best to adapt to your needs. We build powerful browsers, with a lot of flexibility. I welcome you to try us out and share with your friends! #Windows #Macos #Linux #Android #iOS #TEchnology #EU #Europa #Norway #Iceland #Browser #Vivaldi #BigTech https://vivaldi.com

Here are some things that one can add to the analysis of the MacOS TCP timeout clock freeze bug. The code for calculate_tcp_clock() in XNU was changed in May 2025. Older versions of this function (e.g. in xnu-11417) worked quite differently and wouldn't have stopped ticking the clock at 32-bit unsigned integer wraparound. None of #NetBSD, #FreeBSD, nor #OpenBSD share this exact way of doing TCP timeout processing with #XNU. FreeBSD does not have a tcp_now and works off the global 32-bit ticks variable. OpenBSD effectively works off the kernel's system clock, too, but with a randomized offset, and does 64-bit unsigned modular arithmetic. NetBSD uses a distinct 32-bit unsigned tcp_now counter that it simply increments by 1 at regular intervals, and does modular arithmetic subtraction. https://photon.codes/blog/we-found-a-ticking-time-bomb-in-macos-tcp-networking #TCP #MacOS

Apple have committed a number of self-owns lately, but most self-respecting developers still try their best to adhere to certain standards regarding the Mac user experience. @1Password, on the other hand, have taken it upon themselves to ignore the user's specified highlight colour and just make it blue. The stated reason for this is so that it provides 'a more consistent and polished experience across all platforms, ensuring that 1Password looks and feels the same whether you're using it on your Mac, Windows PC, or in your browser'. Decide for yourself how believable this sounds. The jarring visual dissonance that occurs when this bright blue thing pops up when you need to enter a password has to be experienced to be believed. Bad enough that they're jumping onto the 'AI' bandwagon, but this level of ignorance on the part of a major developer about the macOS user experience is stunning. They can fix this or lose at least this customer. #1password #mac #macos #ui
