(more Linux and FOSS news in previous posts of thread) Zed, the AI-native code editor from the creators of Atom, has finally reached version 1.0: https://alternativeto.net/news/2026/4/zed-the-ai-native-code-editor-from-the-creators-of-atom-has-finally-reached-version-1-0/ Notepad++ finally comes to Mac through a native fork with plugin support after 23 years: https://alternativeto.net/news/2026/4/notepad--finally-comes-to-mac-with-a-native-app-and-plugin-support-after-23-years/ Warp goes open-source for easier agentic development and introduces broader model support: https://alternativeto.net/news/2026/4/warp-goes-open-source-for-easier-agentic-development-and-introduces-broader-model-support/ GCC 16 debuts C++20 by default, adds Algol 68 and boosts diagnostics: https://alternativeto.net/news/2026/4/gcc-16-debuts-c-20-by-default-adds-algol-68-and-boosts-diagnostics/ FosseryWeb progress report: Java Stacks and Queues Cheatsheet now available, so all planned Java cheatsheets are done. Also added optional JS notice to the main cheatsheets page (code block copy buttons already required JS earlier, I just decided to be more transparent about it, even if blocking JS doesn't break the pages). https://fosseryweb.codeberg.page/@beta/cheatsheets/ https://fosseryweb-min.codeberg.page/@beta/cheatsheets/ I also added a Projects page (based on the XDG spec's new Projects directory lol, just kidding), to make my other projects easier to access. Not much there currently, just Burner Todo, and my Joplin config, but I might make a CLI version of Burner Todo later on (I'll learn C++ at university, will be a good practice project), and if I manage to switch from GNOME to a tiling WM, I'll also share my configs (although I'm not really a tinkerer type, I just like to set things up how I want and forget it). https://fosseryweb.codeberg.page/@beta/projects.html https://fosseryweb-min.codeberg.page/@beta/projects.html I also did some code refactoring, to unify the code of some page components (header, footer, Related contents section, etc.), for better consistency, readability; and I also shortened the names of some asset directories which were unnecessarily long. (Linux news in previous posts) FOSS NEWS Odysee plans feature to play any YouTube video directly inside its app soon without ads: https://alternativeto.net/news/2026/2/odysee-plans-feature-to-play-any-youtube-video-directly-inside-its-app-soon-without-ads/ (Oh no, why the heck they want another legal trouble? I mean, it sounds good for the users, but it gives a reason to authorities to mess with them, and potentially sue them into bankruptcy, like they already did with their parent company, LBRY. Of course, NewPipe, Invidious, FreeTube, etc. do the same, but those are community projects, can't be attacked that easily, and even if they can be, they don't have that much to lose. In contrast, Odysee is a company, which employs people, who have to make a living. Also, it's a separate platform, which will be lost, if they lose the lawsuit (which is pretty likely, because authorities don't give a crap about digital freedom, only about the big corps' business, they don't consider YouTube datamining people a crime, but they do consider companies "hurting" big tech, see the YouTube Vanced case)) (And tbh, I personally prefer to watch YouTube videos without tying my watch history into an online account, FreeTube already offers a really solid experience) Firefox 148 Is Now Available for Download with AI Kill Switch and Other Changes: https://9to5linux.com/firefox-148-is-now-available-for-download-with-ai-kill-switch-and-other-changes Firefox 149 Enters Beta with Split View, More Robust HTTP/3 Upload Performance: https://9to5linux.com/firefox-149-enters-beta-with-split-view-more-robust-http-3-upload-performance Ladybird web browser begins Rust adoption, starting with JavaScript engine, with AI help: https://alternativeto.net/news/2026/2/ladybird-web-browser-begins-rust-adoption-starting-with-javascript-engine-with-ai-help/ Servo Browser Engine Starts 2026 With Many Notable Improvements: https://www.phoronix.com/news/Servo-January-2026 Thunderbird 148 Email Client Improves Accessibility in Various Tree Views: https://9to5linux.com/thunderbird-148-email-client-improves-accessibility-in-various-tree-views Ente launches Locker, a new open-source secure vault with end-to-end encryption: https://alternativeto.net/news/2026/2/ente-launches-locker-a-new-open-source-secure-vault-with-end-to-end-encryption/ (more FOSS news in comments) #WeeklyNews #OpenSource #FOSSNews #FOSS #OpenSourceNews #News #Odysee #YouTube #Firefox #Firefox148 #FirefoxBeta #Ladybird #Servo #Thunderbird #Ente #EnteLocker #Browser #EmailClient #WebBrowser #BrowserEngine #Email #FosseryTech

(Linux news in previous posts) FOSS NEWS Odysee receives huge UI improvements and some new features: new video player (mimicking YouTube's video player), home page top slide now displays a channel preview the 3 latest videos and a follow button, mini video player when hovering a video's thumbnail, floating player, search field on channel > Content pages, revamped content upload flow divided into multiple pages, Advanced Editor for writing comments (with text formatting buttons), favicons displayed next to links in text posts and comments FreeTube also received some UI revamp: new video player (also somewhat similar to YouTube's), some text changed to first letter uppercase instead of all uppercase, icons added to subscription page (Why does everyone copy YouTube's video player? It looks kinda ugly... Also, the bottom panel's buttons are barely visible if the video is bright. Odysee's new video player at least has a darker background for those buttons) Mastodon introduces Collections, its take on Bluesky starter packs for account discovery: https://alternativeto.net/news/2026/4/mastodon-introduces-collections-its-take-on-bluesky-starter-packs-for-account-discovery/ Firefox 149.0.2 Improves the Browser Toolbar on Wayland for Linux Users: https://9to5linux.com/firefox-149-0-2-improves-the-browser-toolbar-on-wayland-for-linux-users Calibre 9.7 E-Book Manager Improves the Annotations Browser and Content Server: https://9to5linux.com/calibre-9-7-e-book-manager-improves-the-annotations-browser-and-content-server PeaZip 11.0 Archive Manager Speeds Up File Browsing and Enhances Bookmarks: https://9to5linux.com/peazip-11-0-archive-manager-speeds-up-file-browsing-and-enhances-bookmarks OBS Studio 32.1 released with overhauled audio mixer, WebRTC simulcast support, and more: https://alternativeto.net/news/2026/4/obs-studio-32-1-released-with-overhauled-audio-mixer-webrtc-simulcast-support-and-more/ OpenShot 3.5.1 Video Editor Adds New Optimize Preview Built-In Proxy Workflow: https://9to5linux.com/openshot-3-5-1-video-editor-adds-new-optimize-preview-built-in-proxy-workflow PlayStation 3 emulator RPCS3 showcases an improved handheld gaming PC experience: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2026/04/playstation-3-emulator-rpcs3-showcases-an-improved-handheld-gaming-pc-experience/ FEX 2604 Released With Better Memory Savings For Running x86_64 Apps/Games On ARM64: https://www.phoronix.com/news/FEX-2604-Released (more FOSS news in comments) #WeeklyNews #OpenSource #FOSSNews #FOSS #OpenSourceNews #News #Odysee #FreeTube #Mastodon #Fedi #Fediverse #Firefox #Calibre #PeaZip #OBS #OBSStudio #OpenShot #RPCS3 #FEX #PS3 #FosseryTech
