Indeed, I predicted it, less than a day before the first age dæmon (first mentioned in the very thread headed by my initial prediction), and a few days before the #systemd one. https://mastodonapp.uk/@JdeBP/116256681914302170 The next progression of events will be apologists saying that this is entirely severable from systemd, and Linux-based operating systems can patch it out of their packages; and then some desktop environment making it a mandatory dependency. The most challenging part of giving up #surveillance tech (so far) was giving up Spotify. My ADHD comes with a constant, annoying, loud earworms, and often the only thing that can help is listening to the song playing in my head. But when I saw that Spotify was asking user for #ageverification, I canceled my 10+ year sub. You know who I am, you have my credit card info! After months of "detoxing", I have figured out how to live w/o music streaming. I can live without your service, too. Try me.

The UK Parliament continues to pursue an approach to online safety that doesn't work. The Australian under-16 social media ban has failed to make any difference and people have sought ways around it. There needs to be an urgent rethink on digital ID age checks. Unregulated providers sitting on a pot of highly sensitive data. What could go wrong? Also #FLOSS does work! That's why #Cyberfascism like "#AgeVerification", #CensorBoot aka. "#SecureBoot" and "#DeviceAttestation" is being shoved down, with #criminalization of those that refuse to comply!And yes, that doesn't exclude the need to abolish the #GAFAMs and actually enforce existing laws!
