So I decided to create a self hosted search engine on my NAS. Turns out its not as difficult as you might think. I also get to opt out of who I use in my search engine. And best of all I own my own data. So what do we think? I'll just keep it private of course on my internal network. I'll access it via tail-scale remotely. #SearXNG #SelfHosted #FOSS #Privacy #Homelab #TrueNAS #Tailscale #OpenSource #DegoogleYourself

In a dick move, I migrated to my new laptop and hadn't pushed my helm charts to #gitea Thankfully via #warp.dev and #gpt5 i was able to rebuild my #helm charts which are now up on gitea and accessible by helm. Tomorrow my intent is to get #argocd installed and see how this #cicd pipeline works #daveknowstech #selfhosted #homelab

Seventeen years ago! I bought this multi-million dollar hoard of Sun servers from a scrap yard for $300. After testing, fixing, and swapping parts to max out some of them, I traded a couple for an SGI Onyx for the museum, a few more for parts of what eventually became my personal 16-proc Origin-2000, and kept two as compute servers for my film making. (A maxxed-out E4000 has 14 x 400 Mhz UltraSparc II's, and 14 gig of ram (In 128meg sticks! Ha ha ha. Warm.)). #RetroComputing #SunMicrosystems #HomeLab

Maybe buying the cheapest USB crap I can find on aliexpress isn't the best idea for stability. #homelab

I feel somewhat bare, backups have been made, core services moved to a single #proxmox next stage is to re-purpose the proxmox cluster ready to deploy kubernetes via #rancher on the nodes Then, with the help of #ai setup help charts for my apps and figure out how to use #gitea to host them and pipeline for updates Love a bank holiday weekend tech project #daveknowstech #selfhosted #homelab

Any recommendation for #SelfHosting a web app, useable on mobile as well as desktop for two people to collaborate making notes with basic WYSIWYG text formatting? The purpose is to help us maintain notes for #renovation and #refurbishment of our home. We're mostly apart so I think it would help being able to edit a list of documents. Say one per room, and for things like lighting, heating, #HomeAutomation etc. Anyone done this? #HomeLab #HomeAssistant

I decided to run updates. It turns out, #Proxmox had like 60+ updates. Clearly, I need to do this more often. #selfhosting #homelab

#debian has released a new Debian 13 (Trixie) kernel to fix #cve_2026_31431. If you aren't on Trixie yet, maybe a good time to upgrade? #sysadmin #homelab #linux

@ChristosArgyrop@mastodon.social @Infoseepage@mastodon.social @thatdnaguy@genomic.social nodds in agreement at ~ €0,3387/kWh [or U$D 0,40/kWh} #HomeLab|bing is just untennable, even if I go with some energy-efficient system that draws maybe 100W. I wish everyone who's invested in the #AIslop shitshow a very ugly bankrupcy!

It’s so satisfying when a new container finally spins up on the first try! 🐳 Every time I set something up in the home lab, I learn a new little trick or two. What’s one tech 'win' you’ve had this week? ✨ #SelfHosting #Linux #HomeLab

I recently discovered ntfy.sh and it is brilliant in its simplicity. I am currently rewriting my bash scripts to drop AWS SNS in favor of it. Getting a direct push notification to my phone (and not only this) via a simple curl command is so much cleaner than setting up IAM roles and SNS topics. I still absolutely love email as a primary protocol, but my inbox really does not need to know every single time a cron job finishes successfully 😅 #SelfHosted #Bash #DevOps #Linux #ntfy #HomeLab #AWS #Fediverse #Linux

I am testing out / researching bundle packages for VPS deployment and I realized I haven't looked into Backup solutions in a while. What free open source backup software would you recommend and what newer ones have you heard about? If portable even better. #backup #server #sysadmin #opensource #vps #cyberSecurity #infoSec #cloud #homelab
