Okay, if this is real, this is worse than I was expecting. I've been thinking about secondary outputs but I've been thinking way more about plastics, inks, other secondaries. I have been worried about products shortages but maybe not enough. I am and have been assuming that there will be preferential distribution to corporations (which obviously includes most freight) and least preference given to individuals trying to do their own work themselves - e.g., like RAM over the last several months. But I haven't thought about the price side of that. And holy shit it's gonna get fugly. So, uh, yeah. Maybe buy an ebike. Maybe make some plans. https://bsky.app/profile/carlquintanilla.bsky.social/post/3mly43udoqk2c #oil #OilPrice #IranWar #fascism #economy

Turn the screws on Consob, Freni forced to step down The victim of the internal struggles within the majority is Federico Freni. The Lega (Northern League) undersecretary for Economy announced his step down, withdrawing from the race for the presidency of Consob. Freni was practically the only candidate in the field, but the right-wing factions split over his name. The problem, according to Forza Italia, is Freni’s affiliation with a political party. A conviction rejected by the Lega, which recalled how figures from political parties had already been chosen to lead the Authority in the past. Freni’s step down: Renunciation of the leadership of Consob However, the rift was never healed and after months of haggling, infighting within the majority, confirmations and denials, it was the undersecretary himself who announced to Repubblica his willingness to “take a step back”. This choice was immediately communicated to the Economy Minister, Giancarlo Giorgetti, and the leader of his party, Matteo Salvini. Giorgetti himself had advanced Freni’s candidacy in the Council of Ministers in January. The appointment was then blocked by the leader of Forza Italia, Antonio Tajani. Throughout the weeks, the opposition from the “Blues” (Forza Italia) seemed to have diminished, but in recent days the clash reignited, with Forza Italia’s spokesperson, Raffaele Nevi, who reiterated the need to choose a “high-profile technical expert” to lead Consob. Thus, it was Freni who made the decision and avoided a new confrontation in a majority that is already experiencing a delicate phase, with ongoing fractures on all issues at hand, from electoral law to the end of life. Giorgetti joked about Freni’s choice: “I’m happy like this, at least he stays to work with us,” he said, expressing appreciation for the work done by the undersecretary at the Ministry of Economy and Finance (Mef). The article Right-Wing Factions in Pieces over Consob, Freni Forced to Step Down appears to be the first on LA NOTIZIA. #Consob #Freni #FedericoFreni #NorthernLeague #Economy #ForzaItalia #Authority #Consob #Repubblica #GiancarloGiorgetti #MatteoSalvini #Giorgetti #AntonioTajani #ForzaItalia’s #RaffaeleNevi #first #LANOTIZIA https://www.lanotiziagiornale.it/destre-a-pezzi-sulla-consob-freni-costretto-al-passo-indietro/

Time for a fresh #introduction. They tell me I’m chronically #trusting and #optimistic 🤜 🤛 . It’s a weakness I feel no need to address. After the first 10 years my wife said she wasn’t going to explain my jokes any more 🙅‍♀️ , since I didn’t seem to care if anyone laughed anyway. That was a while back, and our #kids now have the same policy. Professionally I’m what happens if a #scientist 🥼 looks at themselves and asks what that’s for. Spoiler: it ended up being about people, and how #technology can make our world better 🌍. My last ricochet took me from #digital #economy to the one place that hasn’t been corrupted by capitalism: #space! 🚀 🛰️ 📡 . I've become a delocalised European 🇪🇺 🇬🇧 🇪🇸 who rarely sleeps five nights in the same bed these days. Not even for the fun reason. But I came here in the Great Relocation of 2022 to escape from all that, and to hear about your #pets 😻 and #hobbies 🧶 It’s quiet here, away from the road noise and the shouting. You can hear the birds sing 🐥 🎵

We really do not have our priorities in order, if we cannot organise reliable drug supplies for those, who depend on it. How can we as societies be so unkind and negligent? #health #economics #economy #capitalism https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c202jqn3jzro

I may be out of line, but who’s actually running the country? There’s way too much stupidity and incompetence coming out of the White House to be coming from Trump alone. #MAGA #republicans #trump #incompetence #iran #war #Israel #middleeast #economy #epstein #news #politics #worldnews

China and Indonesia today fully linked their national QR payment networks. Both central banks call it a deliberate move to bypass the dollar. Transactions settle directly in rupiah and yuan under their local currency settlement framework. No USD in the chain. A Chinese tourist can now scan an Indonesian QRIS code with Alipay or UnionPay and pay like a local at over 39 million merchants. Indonesians can do the same in China with their 33 local e-wallets. https://jakartaglobe.id/business/dedollarization-drive-indonesiachina-crossborder-qris-payments-to-launch-next-week #news #economy

🟢 TradeWar | 7/10 🇪🇨 🇨🇴 Colombia-Ecuador trade collapses amid tariff war Trade relations between Colombia and Ecuador are rapidly collapsing amid an escalating tariff dispute. Ecuador has imposed a 100% tariff on all imports from Colombia. In response, Colombia has introduced restrictions on Ecuadorian goods, with rates reaching up to 75%. This mutual escalation is leading to a sharp decline in bilateral trade volumes. Businesses in both countries are already feeling the economic impact of this confrontation. #OSINT #NewsGroup #Ecuador #Colombia #TradeWar #Economy

It's going to be hard for mom and dad to home school their kids when they'll have to work a shift at the factory, then run over to the town with a 24-hour gas station to get a shift there. Of course, those jobs could all flame out if gas and diesel prices keep rising. We will look back on some small ghost towns and remember when they had a gas station and cafe before the economy crashed in the '20s. (Pun intended). #indiana #uspol #economy

oh hey i found it! i knew i kept it xD I led a tiny group of people (we called it an "informational protest" down at Westlake with this for hours. Had a lot of good conversations but, well. Funniest part was the Roaches* trying to get in on our bit and me physically chasing them off. Never let LaRouchites into your party. (Are they even still around? Look 'em up.) #protest #economy

Oh, also of interest: the headlines note that there were the most dissenters on this rates decision since 1992. Since people were looking for a rate cut the implication is that the dissenters wanted one. That is NOT CORRECT. There were four dissents. _One_ wanted an immediate rate cut, as context around the headlines would imply. The other three wanted the forward-looking possible-rate-cut-languge _removed_. They wanted no rate cut now, and they wanted the suggestion of a rate cut at the next meeting _taken out_, meaning they expect higher inflation. This is the opposite of the contextual headline implication and one should take it onboard for one's inflation expectations accordingly. #economy #InterestRates #FedReserve #inflation

This is not financial advice and I am not a financial advisor, but my inflation expectations are more in line with those of the dissenters. People see the gas/diesel price shocks. Most people aren't yet really seeing the shipping price shocks. The goods price shock hasn't hit yet, but it absolutely will; if you look you can see it coming. As for food, well, people are seeing a little foods price shock but it's mostly transportation impacts passed along so relatively low-key so far for most, but if fertiliser supplies don't get sorted - China's helping with that in eastern Asia, sharing from their considerable reserves stockpile - the hard impacts will be four to six months off. #economy #InterestRates #FedReserve #prices #inflation
