"Batteries are particularly useful to homes which generate their own electricity. Most rooftop solar installations now include a battery to help make the best use of the solar power they generate." We have a heat pump going in very soon and batteries are next on our wish list. We'll be documenting the process of fitting the heat pump. India “has achieved over 50% of its installed electricity capacity from non-fossil sources —

reaching this milestone five years ahead of its 2030 Paris Agreement target.”

The Guardian | Octopus Energy boss: some people would accept occasional blackouts if bills cut by Jillian Ambrose AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. Greg Jackson, the founder and chief executive of Octopus Energy, told an industry conference that while he is not advocating for power cuts, many consumers—especially in Spain where recent blackouts sparked debate—might accept an occasional blackout if it meant electricity costs could be reduced by about 25 % and price spikes avoided. He argued that the real challenge for a renewables‑heavy system is controlling the expense of grid and network upgrades, noting that cheap home‑battery storage now makes brief outages tolerable even for those who rely on medical equipment. Jackson warned that the UK risks over‑investing in costly grid infrastructure without sufficient transparency, whereas countries that have built flexibility into their energy mix, like Spain, are seeing dramatically lower prices and less exposure to spikes. Gas prices just hit another high. REMINDER: This is not an 'energy crisis' ...this is an ENTIRELY UNNECESSARY FOSSIL FUEL DEPENDENCY CRISIS, deliberately engineered by oil & gas corporations and their billionaire buddies, with total disregard for people and planet. #gas #oil #war #renewables #peace

Crazy how low #electricity prices are on the EU market today (deeply in the negative): this just shows how #renewables can drive down prices. If we keep a bit of nuclear and get the hang of energy storage and transmission, we can have cheap, carbon-free electricity continent-wide. #EUpol

I was asleep at the switch when this came out a few days ago. It is *very* worth reading what @pluralistic@mamot.fr has to say. What Trump is doing is horrendous but some things might *inadvertently* change in a positive way - more quickly - because he's doing them. https://pluralistic.net/2026/04/20/praxis/#acceleration #trump #EnergyTransition #solar #renewables

"In Guyang-ri, a farming village of 70 households about 90 minutes south-east of Seoul, people gather for communal free lunches six days a week. The meals are funded by the village’s one-megawatt solar installation, which generates roughly 10m won ($6,800) in net profit each month. “Residents eat lunch together every day, so we see each other’s faces, talk together,” says Jeon Joo-young, the village chief. “Bonds and solidarity between residents become much stronger. Life becomes more enjoyable.” The shift has been dramatic. Before the solar project launched in 2022, the village of about 130 people had no restaurant, no easy way to move around, and little communal infrastructure. Now solar revenue pays for meals, a village “happiness bus” for elderly people, a table-tennis facility and cultural activities. The village deliberately chose to spend solar income on welfare rather than individual dividends, a decision Jeon says residents made themselves rather than being persuaded." https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/apr/16/south-korea-solar-power-renewables-revolution #SouthKorea #SolarEnergy #Renewables #Solar #SolarPower

BOOM! South Australia's power prices have plummeted as they near 100% renewables, proving to the world that relying on wind and solar with battery back-up is possible, more reliable and costs people less. THIS is how we avoid the next oil crisis. #EnergyRevolution #solar #renewables #australia #makeoilhistory #auspol #NZPol #NewZealand #iran https://www.newscientist.com/article/2514985-this-states-power-prices-are-plummeting-as-it-nears-100-renewables/?utm_source=nickofnz&utm_medium=nickofnz

Business news, technology, media and finance reports - France 24 | Oil supply shock hardens energy transition resolve – for some by Simon MORITZ The energy crisis over the Iran war has left some countries glad they've added more renewables, while others are doubling down on fossil fuels. But first: oil prices fall on hopes for de-escalation in the Middle East, while suspicions swirl over potential insider trading on Trump administration policies. Trump's war is accelerating the very transition he resisted, pushing the world faster toward solar and wind. Trump didn’t just start a war, he detonated the illusion that oil equals security. Shut one chokepoint and $100+ oil ripples through the global economy overnight. Our president who rolled back solar credits just put the global economy on the fast lane to solar. #EnergyCrisis #Renewables #Geopolitics #OilShock #iran #israel #Trump

China's renewable energy expansion has reached staggering scale. In 2023 alone, the country added 216 GW of solar capacity — more than the total ever installed in the United States. Wind added another 100 GW. Total renewable capacity now exceeds 1.5 TW. For comparison, the entire US power grid (all sources) stands at approximately 1.2 TW. This is driven by energy security needs, market dominance (China controls 80% of solar supply chains), and economics. Solar prices have fallen 90% in a decade, making it the cheapest energy source in history. The challenge now is transmission. China is building ultra-high-voltage lines and massive battery storage to move power from western deserts to eastern industrial centers. For investors: grid infrastructure, copper, lithium, and rare earth metals are the strategic assets of the coming decade. #China #Renewables #Solar #EnergyTransition #Investing #Grid https://vir.group/

Good morning! It's solar install day here at #DisOldHouse. Feels pretty silly to be putting solar up top when the interior renovation isn't done and we still don't have a kitchen. We're not even sure if we'll stay here long term. AND we're two months late for amazing tax credits. Terrible timing all around, but it's an act of resistance, and it feels amazing. #Solar #Resist #Renewables
