Every country with low #measles #vaccination rates will lose its elimination status sooner or later (and have more sick children and more children dying). #vaccine #vaccines https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736%2826%2900466-6/fulltext

#Wellington #WellingtonNZ #Measles #LocationsofInterest https://www.healthnz.govt.nz/news-and-updates/third-measles-case-confirmed-in-wellington Just came across this by accident. Not sure it received a huge amount of attention, but as Mediterranean Foods Trattoria & Deli in Newtown was involved, thought a mention might be warranted.

ICYMI: "Parents must realize that refusing vaccinations doesn’t just put your own child at risk. It puts other children at risk. I don’t know where Renae picked up measles. It’s one of the most contagious viruses that exists, and it could have been from anywhere. That’s why herd immunity is so important." https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/21/opinion/measles-child-britain-vaccination.html #PublicHealth #measles #vaccinations #immunizations #ChildrensHealth

"State officials have reported 28 more measles cases in the last two weeks, bringing the statewide total to at least 175 infections so far this year. The vast majority of cases are in a federal detention facility in Hudspeth County, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services, which released the latest figures on Thursday." https://www.texastribune.org/2026/04/02/texas-measles-hudspeth-el-paso-federal-detention-immigration/ #PublicHealth #measles #vaccines #immunizations #immigration #ICE #detention #texas

Medical journals start to provide images of #measles again. Can anyone think of a reason for this? https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMicm2514397

NEW: South Carolina, which doesn’t require hospitals to disclose measles-related admissions, has reported only 20 such hospitalizations since Oct. 2. That leaves doctors with an incomplete picture of how the outbreak is affecting the community. https://www.propublica.org/article/south-carolina-measles-hospital-admissions?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=propublica-mastodon-post&utm_content=2-20 #News #SouthCarolina #Measles #Health #HealthCare

Quick reminder to us GenXers or older - "If you were born before 1970 and haven't had #measles, mumps or rubella (german measles) or vaccines...you can ask your GP for MMR vaccine." We didn't all catch this stuff when we were littlies, so we're not all protected! https://www.nhs.uk/vaccinations/mmr-vaccine/

At least 20 students at Ave Maria University in Florida now have confirmed measles infections. Florida has the fourth most measles cases so far in 2026, with 21 confirmed. South Carolina has by far the most (540, 920 if you count those still sick from 2025), followed by Utah (48) and Arizona (34), with those three states experiencing ongoing outbreaks that began in 2025. At least 19 people have been hospitalized in S. Carolina during the current outbreak, with an untold number of patients suffering from measles-related encephalitis 95% are unvaccinated or have an unknown vaccine status https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/measles/campus-measles-outbreak-grows-florida #measles #vaccines #antivax #rfkjr #publichealth

The U.K. has lost its measles elimination status, a designation given when there is no sustained transmission of the disease for a year. Last year saw more than 1,000 cases and in 2024, there were 3,600. Vaccination rates are also below the 95% required to achieve herd immunity.
