A cursed feature of C in 1972: Labels and functions were reassignable (i.e., lvalues)!
For example, this is a clever way to initialize once:

which is compiled to:

Note the indirect jump and assignment to that address. This would have also worked with functions.

Im Fediverse seit 26.04.2022 Hier her umgezogen aus dem TrötCafe. Den ersten Kaffee gibt es schon morgens im Bett. Ich koche und backe gerne und bekomme beides inzwischen auch recht gut hin. Backen klappt besser als kochen. Begeistert für die Fliegerei. Am liebsten fliege ich selber. Das Meer ist für mich ein Ort der Ruhe. Ich bin für die Legalisierung von Cannabis und gleichzeitig für die Regulierung der Abgabe von Alkohol und Nikotin. Oft in Südwest England (Devon) anzutreffen. Meine Boosts stellen nicht immer meine Meinung dar. Why does #Canonical wants to replace the fully developed #GNU #coreutils by their newly developed #uutils?
The only difference is, that the uutils are a reimplementation in #RUST of the coreutils, written in #C.
All they obviously do is to put issues into these absolute basic utilities that doesn’t exist in the originals.
To me that makes no sense. The only idea I get why Canonical might do this is to get more control over basic utilities of #Linux.
