I'm helping the hubby 3d scan some objects for work. We've covered those objects/the floor with reflective dots to help the scanner keep track of itself.
Is there such a thing as "anti reflective dots" that could be incorporated into something like a temporary tattoo or face paint that protesters could use to thwart facial recognition software? Bonus points if it could "qr code"-force the software to return the image of a guy fawkes mask instead. : P

How is it possible in 2026 for Canon to not provide (anywhere) an ICC profile for their scanners?! The colors are completely off and everything has a purple tint... 😩
Does anyone know where to find ICC profiles for the Canon LIDE series (400)? Otherwise I will have to purchase an IT8.7 calibration target and crack out the LittleCMS tooling to create my own ICC profile. Great customer service!

Hey Fedi Friends!
There is this gap between the lowest silver part and the top of the grayish part that shouldn't be there. I can see bearing balls in the lower part, and the top part is a bit conical.
How do I close this gap?
I tried mild force: loosening everything and tightening the bolt on top to pull everything down resulted in a snapped bolt. Hammering the loosened stem downwards did nothing.

As part of my vanlife prep, I've built a calculator to handle the deflection calculations on long metal posts (because I want a hammock instead of a bed and I need to build a custom stand to fit my layout--let me know if you need/want more details).
I was originally looking at 40x40mm extruded aluminum for weight and deflection values I'm getting out of my calculator, but I just ran some numbers on unistrut and...
Can someone double-check what I'm seeing here?
I'm looking at an ~86-inch length of metal, with a point load of 400 lbs and clamped support (which I believe is the best "simple" calculation for my intention).
For 8020.net's 4040 (40mm) extruded aluminum, I'm getting 10.174mm of deflection.
For UnistrutOhio.com's P1000 (1-5/8" or 41.3mm), I'm getting 0.063mm of deflection.
Is that realistic or have I messed up my calculations somewhere?

Is there any point in encrypting a virtual server disk?
When needed, a hosting provider can just take a RAM dump and extract the encryption key, or at least regexp-match interesting files from the page cache, right?
Also, how much is the performance / resource usage overhead of a full-disk encryption?
