A little #knitting story:
Every now and then, whenever I’m knitting, I really slow down and be mindful of what I’m doing. Watching the needles turn a piece of yarn into interconnecting loops to make a fabric is as close to magic as I’ll ever get.
And It also reminds me of why I wanted to learn in the first place.
You see, in 1991 I was in Iraq and we were bombed to oblivion during the shock and awe carpet bombings of the first gulf war.
There was no electricity for a very long time and it was cold, so every evening we’d all huddle in the same room and hope that the next bomb wasn’t going to drop on our heads. My aunt whiled away the hours knitting to the light of a simple kerosene lamp.
I used to sit there mesmerised watching her while listening to Jarre on my Walkman. It was how 14 year old me escaped it all back then.
So I promised myself that one day I’ll teach myself to knit. And that I did when my wife was pregnant with my now seventeen year old first born son.
I made a lot of his baby clothes. My wife still has them all.
And now you know why I knit and why I listen to Jarre, both of them gave me hope that one day it’ll all get better.
And it did ☺️

Continued knitting the green Allegro Shawl (thneed) for a coworker. I have finished the cuff
I am making it with Berroco Vintage DK yarn in Scotch Pine (a dark, heathered green) that the coworker liked. The needles for the cuff have been downsized a quarter of a mm because the 4mm needles are in use, Next up is to start the lacey shawl bits with the 7mm straight needles.

Continued knitting the green Allegro Shawl (thneed) for a coworker. I have made good progress on the lacey knitting
I am making it with Berroco Vintage DK yarn in Scotch Pine (a dark, heathered green) that the coworker liked. The needles are now 7mm straight needles and the pattern involves purling across and then elongated knits back for a delightfully simple airy lace that knits up quick.
I will continue this lace until it's a little over a meter long.

It’s April 2 and time for my monthly round up of my #FiberGoals. I have done 5+ min of fiberarts for 92 consecutive days. Mostly spinning, sometimes knitting. I also made hexiflats (3 handspun). AND, I completed one project from spinning through knitting (my S2KAL Jaunty). Other things - like progress on the Advent calendar - have fallen away. I feel like schools should do more to warn people about gateway crafts.
I started doing some embroidery, it's not too expensive, it doesn't take up too much space. Then I got a second-hand sewing machine, pretty versatile and that should be me sorted right?
NO! It is not enough! YouTube is aggressively pushing me knitting and crochet content. I was seriously considering getting a loom and learning to weave. A LOOM!!
Be careful out there kids. Before you know it you might be spinning your own wool!

The cold, to use a classic SCA term, abides. I'm still feeling pretty rough with it. But! Yesterday I got a whole batch of curry made in the slow cooker anyway, plus I've turned the heels on the socks I am knitting for my good friend; and today I am set fair to get more knitting and other crafts done.
