“What do I eat?”

  • A hungry neurodivergent individual, standing in front of their fridge.

Having the meal with the most steps be expected when you’ve depleted your stores for the day and the medication is wearing off is a daily whoozy :neocat_googly_blep:

As someone who's struggled over many years with basic tasks like eating breakfast, I'm happy to report that I've found a dish my flavor of tism not only approves of, but craves in the morning. I know it sounds simple, but it's a huge thing for me 🥹 Pictured below is a bowl of instant oats, topped with sunny side up eggs, nori furikake, and garlic chili crisp. #FoodPorn #AuDHD #TismThings

Prior to having my hearing completely messed up by bilateral (healing now) busted eardrums, I would not have suspected that the *variability* of sound while they heal would have such a HUGE spoon cost over the course of a day. #audhD @actuallyaudhd@a.gup.pe

Realising the judgmental tone of how neurotypical boomers speak (or write online) is a major trigger for anxiety and meltdowns. #ActuallyAutistic #AuDHD

Why is it so difficult for autistic people to find friends and partners? I read some post about this during the last days and here are my thoughts on the topic. The short answer is that it not because there’s something wrong with us. It’s because we are a minority group, we are very different from each other and have limited options to find each other. These factors are strongly intertwined. Yes, we are not perfect, unresolved trauma, masking and internalized ableism play a role and we all have to work on it. But at a certain point we cannot do this work on our own, we need other people to practice what we learned, to create new data for our nervous system and if we do not have these people, we are trapped in a vicious circle of burnout and loneliness. This brings me to the second point, our limited options. Many of the autistic people around my age (I am in my 40s) who are similar to me, are probably also in a similar situation. They are either trapped in poverty or a relationship they don’t want to be in. They do not live, where they want to live, they are not able to travel or even leave the house for longer than an hour. Many of them don´t even know that they are autistic. So, there are limited options to meet each other. I go outside with Beagle Lumi every day, but in my conservative neighborhood, I won’t find my people. I can get along with them, but they are not my people. And online? Dating apps are overwhelming asf and the autistic people similar to me will think that too, so I won’t find my people there. Realistically, I have the best chances to find my people here on Mastodon. But most of us have rejection sensitivity and are so burnt out, that reaching out to a new person is not an easy thing. We do not have the energy for it. Then there are our differences. We experience the world intensively, we didn’t go to an autistic kindergarten, nobody explained to us how to cope with this world. As a consequence, we are not only very different concerning our needs and special interests, but we are also very different in our coping strategies. During the last years I had several chats, friendships, even intimate relationships with other AuDHD people online. Most of them were not suitable for a long-term relationship, because of our differences or difficult circumstances and that’s ok. But they were enriching my life, they made me grow, they were inspiring and validating. Realizing that you are not a good fit can be hurtful and frustrating, getting to know new people takes a lot of energy and we are already low on energy. But it’s amazing how much energy connecting with another AuDHD person can give you, it made me and the people I connected with feel decades younger and so happy. I found the best friend one could wish for here on Mastodon. So, I will continue to write these posts, encouraging people to chat with me and I do not feel ashamed for it. I am done with feeling shame for having to deal with being a multiply marginalized person in unconventional ways. #ActuallyAutistic #AuDHD #neurodivergent @autistics@fedigroups.social

UPDATE 4-MAY-2026 18:23 UTC+7 348/560 — $212 left to cover May essentials. Thank you to everyone who’s contributed so far 🙂‍↕️ I’m disabled with no healthcare or fixed income, and I need ongoing support to stay afloat. If you can spare at least $5/month, it would make a real difference. If you prefer one-off support, that helps just as much. Please help amplify this so it reaches more people. TIL: The constant repetition of words, phrases, and sounds after hearing them is called “Echolalia” and is commonly found in neurodivergent folks (it's kind of a stim). #adhd #asd #audhd

I decided I want to try microdosing caffeine* but coffee is stupid expensive and tea is kind of hard on my stomach and now I'm sad. I may splurge on some cans of iced coffee. I'm not thrilled about the sugar content, but 🤷🏻‍♀️ Also, I transplanted my seedlings into bigger pots and nobody's died yet. I'm running a small fan a few times a day to help them grow up with strong stalks (stems? I dunno). Anyway. #AuDHD #Gardening *One cup of coffee and I register on the Richter scale for hours.

Found 100g of instant coffee for $6, which is reasonable for the microdosing experiment. Came home from the store and woke somebody up from his nap. #AuDHD #CatsOfMastodon

Trying this again, previous attempt didn't seem to populate the network(s?) very well.. I'm a middle-aged man, in Cornwall, United Kingdom, that's trying deal with several late-life neurodivergent and severe mental illness diagnoses. Stuff that's always been there but flipped the weird switch when diagnosed. Trying to rebuild myself and figure out who I am. #introduction #health #audhd #bpd #cptsd #discovery #mentalhealth #metabolism #healthsciences #maturestudent #porthia #cornwall #kernow

Hi! I'm new here and looking to make new friends! I can be found elsewhere in the fediverse, but the server I'm usually on doesn't feel like the right place for spirituality. I was brought up Catholic and I rejected spirituality altogether for long time. But recently, I've found my way back to it on my own terms. In practice this looks like learning #tarot, but I've been dabbling in minor rituals a little as well. There's a decent chance I'll post some #art or talk about #books or #dance. I'll mostly avoid politics and how they affect my life, though it may come up in the context of tarot readings (in which case I use CNs). Other things to know about me: I'm 40 years old, #trans, #bi / #pan, #polyamorous, and #AuDHD. I'm originally from Germany 🇩🇪 (I've lived in 5 states, so it's hard to be specific). I've lived in the US 🇺🇸 for the past decade, where I'm on my fifth state, too (most recently #Colorado, which I *love*). I've also lived in Switzerland 🇨🇭 and Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿. I'm functionally bilingual (#English and #German). I mostly understand #French 🇫🇷 but haven't spoken it in 20 years. I've learned #Japanese 🇯🇵 to about JLPT-4 level but that, too, is over a decade in my past. More recently, I've picked up some #BrazilianPortuguese 🇧🇷 (Babble says I'm around B2 level) but haven't really used it much. I can't keep up with written Japanese but I can get the general gist in all the other languages. 😄 I used to do federally funded #RenewableEnergy research but if you've been following the news, you may have guessed that I've had to pivot to other topics. In my personal life, I spend most of my time dancing #BrazilianZouk, painting, reading, and chilling with my three #cats: Charmander (orange, that's him in my profile pic), Anubis (black), and Trixie (technically brown tabby but mostly white). My favorite book genres are #fantasy and #scifi, but I also read a lot of #romance (mostly #queer), and I try to read at least one non-fiction book per month. #introduction

Can anyone recommended a good method for dealing with executive disfunction? I think I tried everything. There are a few things I should have dealt with months ago, instead I have completed hundreds of unnecessary projects. #ADHD #AuDHD #AskFedi
