I’m an elderly lefty, living in South West England who’s looking for a nice place in the fediverse where I can share/ learn/ politely disagree etc with others & (occasionally) vent my frustrations & concerns about the parlous state of the world that my grandkids are growing up in! When I’m not “doom scrolling” I enjoy gardening, bird watching, bread baking & being the best granddad I can be.

In #Lincolnshire, they have cut funding for English as a second language classes, despite Reform’s complaint about immigrants not speaking English.’

‘Most #Reform led councils have failed to deliver. Despite plenty of local campaign literature promising reduced taxes, several have acknowledged that they were unable to find waste.
All Reform councils have raised council tax, in some cases having to request government approval to raise them above the government limit. All have failed to cut borrowing.’

#Reform offers no policies at all…just a massive hint that it will impose austerity on #Norfolk. And yet according to the polls they are favourites here…rural and coastal poverty is about to get a whole lot worse.
‘David Bick said his party was making no promises on what it would do in power as it needed to review the council's "huge level of debt", which is about £885m.
While Reform is not offering a manifesto for Norfolk, he insisted it had good quality candidates.’

Much is being made of the projected implosion of #Labour at the local elections, but in rural counties such as #Norfolk it’s the complete annihilation of the #Tories to #Reform that is going to happen.
Went up to the coast to Wells-Next-the-Sea today and didn’t see a single Tory sign…just #Reform. There will be no one competent left in the room.

Many sadly concluded that we would have to go through Brexit before voters realised what an appalling act of self-harm they had committed.
I'm terrified the same will happen with Reform voters - that people will unwittingly vote to screw over the country, their loved ones and themselves.
Don't do it.

The Greens’ decisive win in the #Cliftonville division of Kent County Council (#KCC) came after an intense two month campaign into which four of the main parties threw huge resources
For #Reform UK, it was the first by-election to be fought since their massive victory at KCC last year and was regarded as a “must win”
But they did not win.
