Il momento tanto atteso è finalmente giunto. Stamattina, a un anno preciso dal suo insediamento, Papa Leone XIV ha incontrato in Vaticano il segretario di Stato Usa Marco Rubio. Il vertice è stato l'occasione per rinnovare il comune impegno a "coltivare buone relazioni bilaterali" fra le parti, oltre che un momento per lo scambio di vedute attorno al dossier regionale e internazionale con particolare attenzione ai conflitti globali in corso. Il meeting è durato circa 45 minuti e ha toccato temi come Medio Oriente, Iran, Libano, Africa e anche "la situazione a Cuba" verso cui è stata ribadita la "necessità" di "dare sostegno al popolo in questo momento difficile". L'inviato di Washington si è poi incontrato anche col suo omologo Pietro Parolin e Monsignor Paul R. Gallagher.

The long-awaited moment has finally arrived. This morning, exactly one year since his inauguration, Pope Leo XIV met in the Vatican with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The summit provided an opportunity to renew the shared commitment to "cultivating good bilateral relations" between the parties, as well as a moment for exchanging views around the regional and international dossier, with particular attention to ongoing global conflicts. The meeting lasted approximately 45 minutes and covered topics such as the Middle East, Iran, Lebanon, Africa, and also “the situation in Cuba,” in which the “necessity” of “providing support to the people at this difficult time” was reiterated. The Washington envoy then also met with his counterpart Pietro Parolin and Monsignor Paul R. Gallagher.

Monaco, 28 mar. (askanews) - Papa Leone XIV ha visitato oggi il Principato di Monaco, accolto dal principe Alberto II e dalla principessa Charlène. Le immagini mostrano il Pontefice in papamobile tra i fedeli, poi nella cattedrale di Notre-Dame Immaculée per l'omelia e quindi al Palazzo del Principe, dove si affaccia con Alberto II e Charlène davanti alla folla radunata nella piazza. Nel corso della visita, il Papa ha richiamato il tema del divario tra ricchi e poveri e l'uso della ricchezza al servizio della giustizia e della pace. Si tratta della prima visita di un pontefice a Monaco dal 1538.
Il Papa ha richiamato la necessità che la ricchezza non venga trattenuta ma condivisa e ha invitato a respingere le logiche di onnipotenza che feriscono il mondo e mettono a rischio la pace.

During the visit, the Pope recalled the theme of the gap between rich and poor and the use of wealth in the service of justice and peace. This is the first visit of a pontiff to Monaco since 1538.
The Pope recalled the need for wealth not to be hoarded but shared and invited to reject the logics of omnipotence that wound the world and put peace at risk.
