There's gold & jewels (& other trinkets #Detectorists & #SmallProphets fans will recognise) but for the #birds the real treasure is those eggs.

But here's the shocker... studies show that magpies are NOT actually attracted to shiny things! They’re cautious around unfamiliar things. Their curiosity and intelligence may have inspired the myth, which lives on in folklore - and in my painting.

My #painting of #magpies treasure has now moved on to the nest itself. Lovely, fiddly, detailed & painstaking work in a symphony of umbers.
And yes, in a nod to #detectorists, I DID add a cycling proficiency badge, just like the one I had in the 1970s.
