Cicciolina: “I was working with the python, but it was mostly a sweet thing. I also had a chameleon named Giorgio. In winter, I’d bring him inside my sweater, next to my breast, so he stayed warm.” I am a missionary of love. That’s how I felt. Words of Cicciolina, also known as Ilona Staller, one of the most iconic figures of the world of red light. But perhaps not everyone knows that the former hard-core diva has a great passion for animals and plants. She confesses this in an interview on Rolling Stone’s Speciali Interni (Special Inside). There are currently six Persian Chinchilla cats in her large house, “there was a period when I arrived at having twenty-six cats,” then “I also had dogs: Yorkshire Terrier, an American Bully, a Pitbull.” And the infamous python, which became a true sexual symbol linked to Cicciolina’s sexy image. “Everyone always talks about the python in such a boring way, always with the same scandalized tone. But I loved him very much – she said – (…) They aren’t ornaments. They are relationships. Even the python: yes, I worked with him, but it was mostly a sweet thing. I would sing to the python around his neck, on his body. Nothing scandalous, despite what they wrote. Nothing perverse. It was theatre, all of it.” Convicted animalist and promoter of freedom as an absolute must: “I have never judged anyone for who they are. I’ve always had friends of every kind. Gay, lesbians, everyone. I never understood why a person should condemn another for this. We are all equal on this earth.” Finally, a curiosity, the former hard-core actress is convinced she has an angel who protects her: “One day I woke up at dawn, I sat on the bed and I saw a gray, shimmering form cross the room and exit through the window, even though the door was closed. Another morning I woke up because I felt a woman’s hand caressing my face. I live alone, so there was no one. But it didn’t scare me, it was sweet.” The article “With the python I worked, but it was mostly a sweet thing. I also had a chameleon called Giorgio.” comes from Il Fatto Quotidiano. #Cicciolina #Giorgio #IlonaStaller #RollingStone’s #Persian #YorkshireTerrier #AmericanBully #IlFattoQuotidiano https://www.ilfattoquotidiano.it/2026/05/07/cicciolina-con-il-pitone-ci-lavoravo-ma-era-soprattutto-una-cosa-dolce-avevo-anche-un-camaleonte-che-si-chiamava-giorgio-dinverno-lo-portavo-dentro-il-maglione-vicino-al-seno-cosi-sta/8378301/

The same PIE root developed into Persian بالش bālish "pillow", like this: 🔊 PIE-bholgh-to-Persian-balesh.wav Related words are found in other Iranian languages, e.g. Pashto بالښت balacht, Ossetian baʒ/baz, as well as in Slavic, e.g. Slovenian blazina. When I originally posted about this in November 2021, the linguist Magnus Pharao @magnuspharao.bsky.social pointed out that Danish bælg (seed pod of legumes and bellows) is also a cognate! @linguistics #linguistics #etymology #EnglishLanguage #AcousticPhonetics #phonetics #ProtoIndoEuropean #Iranian #Persian

Persian and English etymologies of the day Nowruz is the Persian New Year festival at the Spring Equinox (20th March). Nowruz means "new light"; Persian now (pronounced like English "no") comes from Proto-Indo-European *neu-io, something like this: 🔊 https://www.ancientsounds.net/eastern-origins/PIE-neuio-to-Persian-noo.wav Tajik рӯз and Persian روز, ruz descends from Proto-Indo-European *leuk- [lɘʊk]: 🔊 https://www.ancientsounds.net/eastern-origins/PIE-leuk-to-Tajik-ruz.wav (Tajik is also an Iranian language, very similar to Iranian Persian.) *leuk- also developed into words for "day" in other Iranian languages, e.g. Balochi روچ [roʧ], something like this: 🔊 https://www.ancientsounds.net/eastern-origins/PIE-leuk-to-Balochi-roch.wav Kurdish roj [roʒ]: 🔊 https://www.ancientsounds.net/eastern-origins/PIE-leuk-to-Kurdish-roj.wav English new and "light" are from the same roots, *neu-io and *leuk- 🔊 https://www.ancientsounds.net/eastern-origins/new-from-PIE-neuio.wav Light (brightness) comes from Proto-Indo-European *leuk-, something like this: 🔊 https://www.ancientsounds.net/eastern-origins/light-from-PIE-leuk.wav Image source: https://blog.izapya.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/noroz1.jpeg #Persian #Iranian #English #phonetics #linguistics

From 2021 to 2024 I had a research fellowship to work on a project in which I use audio simulations to show how English is related to various "Eastern" languages, including Persian. Many of the audio recordings and the graphics used to illustrate them were from Iranian websites, now silenced by the authorities. So I've decided to re-post here (correcting where necessary) a number of them to show how those Iranian voices were essential to my research. By way of thanks and memory. Qatar to Iran: "This is not our war.” Araghchi: “They left us no choice.” Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, called his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, to protest the attacks. This reflects an Iranian escalation and does not demonstrate any genuine desire to resolve the conflict, but rather the intention to harm neighboring countries and drag them into a war that is not theirs,” Al Thani stated. “Such attacks reveal no goodwill on the part of Iran.” Sheikh Al Thani also called for the immediate cessation of attacks against neighboring states that have remained outside the conflict. While prioritizing diplomacy, Qatar “will confront any aggression that strikes its sovereignty, security, territorial integrity or national interests, asserting that these attacks cannot remain unanswered,” in accordance with its right to self-defense, the statement said. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian addressed neighboring countries, stating that Tehran had sought to avoid war through diplomacy, but that the United States and Israel had left him “no choice” but to attack. “We respect your sovereignty,” the president said in two separate posts, in Arabic and Persian, on X. “Iran believes that security in the region must be achieved through a collective regional effort,” he added. #Qatar #Iranian #AbbasAraghchi #AlThani #MasoudPezeshkian #Tehran #theUnitedStates #Israel #Arabic #Persian https://www.iltempo.it/esteri/2026/03/04/news/il-qatar-all-iran-non-e-la-nostra-guerra-araghchi-non-avevamo-scelta--46658112/
