This month I'm going to release a newsletter called "The Beginning: On the Currents of Magick" that will include an excerpt from the book I'm writing (which, until now I haven't really talked about publicly).
I aim to discuss what it is that underlies magick, avoiding the typical physics metaphors and getting more to the root of the metaphysical structure underlying the world (or universe if we'd like to use broader language) that lends to the existence of magick. Because, you see, there is a reason that we are capable of the kind of influence we are capable of, and we can couch it in terms of quantum entanglement and atomic vibration and things and that's all valid but more than reducing the spiritual reality of our world into the language of a discipline which relies on cold materialism to offer its answers, we need myth that we can use to ground ourselves in Practice. This is what I've been alluding to each time I discuss Context, and so here will be the beginning of the weaving of such myth: one that is so much older than my capacity for verbalizing it, but which I am being called to put down in a way which we can connect ourselves to nevertheless.

On Bealtaine eve in Ireland, primrose was scattered across doorways because fairies couldn't cross it. Butter, milk, and the household's luck were all at risk. The Good Neighbors became especially active at this time of year, and certain protections were essential.
Food and drink were left out as offerings. Doors and windowsills were lined with primrose. Cattle were watched closely.

Some Bealtaine customs trace to the 9th-century Irish record. Sanas Cormaic describes two fires and cattle driven toward them. Some came from English May Day traditions absorbed over centuries. The Green Man was coined as a term in 1939. Handfasting has Old Norse origins.
Each custom is traced to its actual source using Sanas Cormaic, Kevin Danaher, and Ronald Hutton.

The Gods and Their Croziers
@godsandcroziers@pagan.plus
A project to apply comparative mythology to Celtic-Christian Hagiography to undo the layers of "Interpretatio Christiana" that rendered the Celtic gods into Saints. Focusing mostly on the Irish saints and Gods, but with wider relevance to how we understand Celtic, Norse, Mediterranian, Ossetian, Iranian, and Indian traditions.

Hi all - this is a new account just for my comparative mythology project on the Celtic-Christian Saints, which I've previously been sharing over on @seachaint@masto.hackers.town 'til now.
"The Gods and Their Croziers" is my current passion - applying a comparative mythology model inherited from others such as "Taliesin's Map", I've been able to identify some key clusters of Gaelic and British saints who are, in fact, entirely Gods rewritten as Saints.
Indeed, almost every saint prior to 650CE (possibly later) appears to be a fictional re-writing of a Celtic mythological character. Even more interestingly, their names and locations of worship seem to frequently, perhaps usually, correspond to native epithets and associated sites.
I'm currently publishing dossiers on the God-Saints the day before their feast-days according to the Christian calendars. I try to include in each issue enough information to understand the connection, to get an idea of the function of the deity in context, and some information on names, places, animals/plants, and other dates or events that might be relevant to the god.
Anyone into #Celtic or #Irish #Paganism or #Mythology ought to enjoy this work - some of Ireland's "missing" gods are _only_ recorded clearly as Saints, having never been written as native mythology (or only in highly fragmentary, coded form). But, with the "Key" from the Saints, we can unpack mythology that's remained obscure until now.
I hope ye'll join me in exploring this whole new frontier of Irish mythological exploration.
