Last boost: "Cats are cooking it hot. Boffins mixed it full of sass too". Quite the recommendation. I will now check it out as the kids say. #jazz @jazz@fedigroups.social https://chrispotterjazz.bandcamp.com/album/alive-with-ghosts-today

The 2nd John Handy Album by The John Handy Quintet, released on Columbia in 1966. Review by Scott Yanow Altoist John Handy's second Columbia album was actually his fourth as a leader. Utilizing the same musicians who had joined him during his sensational set at the 1965 Monterey Jazz Festival (violinist Michael White, guitarist Jerry Hahn, bassist Don Thompson and drummer Terry Clarke), Handy performs five of his complex yet accessible originals, which include the "Theme X" (in 5/4 time), the catchy "Blues for a Highstrung Guitar," and the adventurous "Scheme #1." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbsRUm0AnAg&list=OLAK5uy_nZCsI3DNoCe2gy951iX7Bngkf0c1Z1MUA #JohnHandy #Jazz #Music #MichealWhite #JazzViolin

Tour de Force is an album by Brazilian guitarist Bola Sete, released in 1963 through Fantasy Records. Review by Richie Unterberger Sete led a trio on this mid-1963 date, backed by Fred Schrieber on bass and John Rae on drums. It tilts a little to the mellower, more sentimental side than more driving sessions such as the one he did the previous year for Bossa Nova. It's still quality by-the-fire jazz bossa nova music, Sete's playing a lesson in both skill and discreet economy. While he wrote three of the ten songs, his repertoire of cover selections is fairly wide ranging, taking in "Moon River," Dizzy Gillespie's "Tour de Force," and, as a special highlight, his version of Isaac Albeinz's "Asturias," the mournful flamenco-influenced song familiar to any student of Spanish-style guitar. There's also a samba that Luiz Bonfa had a hand in writing ("Sambe de Orfeu")... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvnUzINmJ3I #BolaSete #BossaNova #Jazz #JazzGuitar #BrazilianMusic #Music

Li'l Ol' Groovemaker...Basie! is a 1963 album by the Count Basie Orchestra released by Verve Records. The music was composed and arranged by Quincy Jones. - Wikipedia Review by Scott Yanow For this set, it was Quincy Jones's turn to provide a program for the Basie Orchestra. All nine of the originals are virtually forgotten today but are very well-played by this veteran band. Although Frank Foster was still in the band, Eric Dixon (on tenor and flute) was starting to assert himself as a major solo voice while trumpeter Snooky Young has a few strong spots. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fttu8OXukag&list=OLAK5uy_mc6am0MZoNMucFi0Q4l2r5nIkyDGUhBWA #CountBasie #BigBand #Jazz #Swing #QuincyJones #Music #VerveRecords

Bongo Fever Jack Costanzo At The Garden Of Allah by Jack Costanzo, released on Liberty in 1959. One of the best albums ever by Mr. Bongo! This one was recorded live at the Garden Of Allah, and it features Jack Costanzo leading up a tight little group of congas/bass/drums/piano, plus some nice tenor work by Jay Corre. Tracks include "Garden Of Allah Bongo", "La Cumparasa", "Birk's Works", "Quiere", and "Bongo Fever". A very tasty bit of Latin jazz, with a sound that's more stripped down and percussive than some of Jack's other LPs! - Dusty Groove https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxLz7vaKr44 #JackCostanzo #Bongos #MrBongo #LatinJazz #Jazz #Music

Plays a Gallery of Seldom Heard Tunes by Irving Berlin by The Dave Pell Octet, released on Trend in 1953 David Pell (February 26, 1925 – May 7, 2017) was an American jazz saxophonist, bandleader and record producer. He was best known for leading a cool jazz octet in the 1950s. In 1953, he began working with his own ensembles, mostly as an octet with Pell on tenor saxophone, another saxophone (either a baritone or an alto), trumpet, trombone, guitar, and a piano-bass-drums rhythm section).[2] Among the octet players were Pepper Adams, Benny Carter, Mel Lewis, Red Mitchell, Marty Paich, Art Pepper and, early his career, John Williams. - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFnumcBOqLY #DavePell #IrvingBerlin #ShortyRogers #CoolJazz #Jazz #Music #TonyRizzi

Nadir & Mahora by Mikołaj Trzaska / Clementine Gasser / Michael Zerang, released on Kilogram Records in 2009. FreeJazz Collective wrote: Every new CD by Polish saxophonist Mikołaj Trzaska is one to look forward to, and this one also delivers the goods, in the good company of Swiss cellist Clementine Gasser and American percussionist Michael Zerang. The album is recorded live at the "Alchemia" club in Krakow, Poland (where else would it be?). Trzaska is not only a wonderful instrumentalist, but his musical creativity and sense of sound is possibly his greatest asset. He knows how to be intriguing, inventive, expressive and sensitive at the same time, adventurous and accessible at the same time. And in Gasser and Zerang he really found two soulmates... https://www.freejazzblog.org/2009/05/mikoaj-trzaska-clementine-gasser.html https://kilogramrecords.bandcamp.com/album/nadir-mahora https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9WJY_sen1w&list=RDU9WJY_sen1w&start_radio=1 #MikołajTrzaska #ClementineGasser #MichaelZerang #FreeJazz #Music #Jazz #PolishJazz

Hot Fives & Sevens is a 2000 box set collection of recordings made by American jazz trumpeter and singer Louis Armstrong with his Hot Five, Hot Seven, and other groups between 1925 and 1930. First released on JSP Records on 22 August 2000, the set was subsequently reissued on Definitive in 2001. A four-disc compilation, the set has received a "crown" as an author's pick in The Penguin Guide to Jazz and is also included in the book's "core collection" recommended for jazz fans.[2] AllMusic concurs that it is "beyond indispensable", adding that "you can't have a Louis Armstrong collection without this historic set" or "any kind of respectable jazz collection." - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foiUAd5iwEA&list=RDfoiUAd5iwEA&start_radio=1 #LouisArmstrong #Satchmo #JazzTrumpet #HotFive #HotSeven #Jazz #Music #ClassicJazz

I bought this on #BandcampFriday. Prerelease so only two tracks to listen to. It feels largely improvised. And I always wonder what parameters are set in advance. #jazz @jazz@fedigroups.social KATARAHI from MYRA MELFORD - SATOKO FUJII https://rogueart1.bandcamp.com/album/katarahi

The Buxton Festival looks amazing. The man behind the Newcastle improvised music scene has pulled together the #jazz line up and it's excellent. I really want to see Josephine Davies.

I think #CheltJazzFest is back Back BACK after a weak 2025 programme. I'd go again today if it were nearer. Three gigs yesterday. Joshua Redman: proper jazz. Great band and energy at 2pm. The Power of Four: WTAF!; glorious. And finally Theon Cross: commitment and tuba tunes. #jazz @jazz@fedigroups.social #Cheltenham

But Café Oto had jazz Bez instead (music starts at 1.20) @jazz@fedigroups.social #jazz #CheltJazzFest https://youtu.be/Tq3qLCxIUL4

Kenny Dorham - The Complete 'Round About Midnight at the Café Bohemia Recent Tone Poet release of this classic 1956 set, expanded with the tracks added in the 1984 Japan release, plus more. Dorham and the band (J. R. Monterose (tenor), Kenny Burrell (guitar), Bobby Timmons (piano), Sam Jones (bass), andArthur Edghill (drums)) are locked in and playing great. Beautiful mono recording, mastering, pressing. Highly recommended. #nowplaying #vinyl #KennyDorham #TonePoet #jazz

To be clear. The thing that pissed off my wife was the difficult and uncompromising nature of the music. But we have been for a clear the air curry. And after a ginger martini and beer (me) and tap water (her) harmony has been restored. Now for some restorative tuba courtesy of Theon Cross. #jazz @jazz@fedigroups.social #CheltJazzFest
