🚌⚡🔋 First Bus has launched a UK-first trial using its electric bus depots to help balance the National Grid by changing when buses are charged. The scheme began at the #Glasgow depot and will expand to Great Yarmouth later this spring. By charging vehicles when excess renewable energy, particularly #Scottish wind power, is available, and reducing demand at peak times, the depots can help cut #renewable #energy curtailment and support a more flexible electricity network. The trial is being run with Optimo Energy, whose platform adjusts charging in response to live grid conditions while keeping buses ready for service. First Bus said the project could improve the efficiency of electrification, support grid stability and create new revenue opportunities through energy flexibility markets. https://news.firstbus.co.uk/news/first-bus-launches-uk-first-trial-to-support-national-grid-using-electric-bus-depots

It's always nice to see this yarn-bombed bench back in the Botanic Gardens in Glasgow. The knitted and crocheted cover has been present from April until October each year since 2017 and is a tribute to the knitter's mother. #glasgow #botanicgardens #yarnbombing #glasgowbotanicgardens #bench

Bella the elephant in Bellahouston Park in Glasgow, with a giant ant walking through the woods behind her. This is the frame of a swing in a nearby playpark, but it makes for a rather unusual photograph! #glasgow #sculpture #bellahoustonpark #elepahnt #giantant

That's me all set up for my pop-up stall in the St Enoch Centre today, with lots of Glasgow-themed goodies featuring some of my favourite photos. It's beside the lifts at the east end of the centre. I'll be here until about 4pm, so if you're in town today, stop by and say hi. #glasgow #glasgowtoday #stenochcentre

The Kelvin Aqueduct on the Forth and Clyde in Glaagow, currently devoid of water while a leak is being fixed. This aqueduct, dating from 1787, is 136m long and 19m high, and was built to carry the Forth and Clyde Canal across the River Kelvin. It uses three feet of puddling clay to make it waterproof, and it is presumably this layer of clay which is being repaired. #glasgow #kelvinaqueduct #forthandclydecanal #maryhill #architecture

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 #ScotRail has thanked its customers as passenger numbers at #Glasgow Central station returned to near-normal levels following the full restoration of its timetable. On March 25th, around 120,000 journeys were recorded, demonstrating a swift recovery despite ongoing work on Gordon Street and Union Street entrances due to a fire. Passenger numbers had steadily increased, rising from an average of 55,000 during low-level services (March 11-17) to 94,000 after a partial reopening of high-level platforms (March 18-24). ScotRail's Chief Operating Officer, David Ross, expressed pleasure at the strong return of customers, highlighting rail's vital role in supporting the local economy and thanking passengers for their patience. The company is now focused on maintaining reliable service. https://www.scotrail.co.uk/about-scotrail/news/scotrail-thanks-customers-120000-return-glasgow-central

This is not a good scene to wake up to, but at least no one in the building or any firefighters were hurt. The neighbouring Central Station, a key element of Victorian Glasgow and an important hub for modern communters, is closed, but is hopefully unharmed. #glasgow #glasgowtoday #fire #unionstreet #glasgowcentral

The view down Renfield Street to Union Street in Glasgow this morning. After yesterday's fire, the familiar dome of the 175 year old Union Corner building is gone, as is the facade which once stretched down Union Street to Caledonian Chambers (where there is a side entrance to Central Station). Smoke still billows from the burned out remains and drifts across the centre of Glasgow. Cont./ #glasgow #glasgowtoday #fire #unionstreet #glasgowcentral

The abundance and scarcity of food, the work of Itamar Gilboa on display at the Mic Faenza. (Adnkronos) - An installation that “speaks” of the paradox between food abundance and scarcity in the contemporary world. It is ‘World of Plenty’, curated by Alessandra Laitempergher and specifically created for the International Ceramics Museum (Mic) Faenza, set up in the museum’s Project Room from March 1st to April 26th. The work marks a new chapter in the investigation that the Dutch artist Itamar Gilboa has been deeply involved in for over 15 years concerning food systems, environmental responsibility, and global inequality. His long-term research began with the Food Chain Project (FCP), an autobiographical investigation into personal consumption that evolved into a critical reflection on global food distribution, waste, and scarcity. This constant commitment to systemic research led to him being invited to create an important work of art for COP26, the United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Glasgow, where his work contributed to the international debate on the relationship between climate change and food waste, reaching millions of people worldwide and strengthening the link between environmental crises and food systems. #ItamarGilboa #theMicFaenza #Mic)Faenza #ProjectRoom #Dutch #theFoodChainProject #Glasgow https://www.adnkronos.com/cultura/labbondanza-e-la-scarsita-di-cibo-lopera-di-itamar-gilboa-in-mostra-al-mic-faenza_2f63NQML6VFvpox9mPg1Ue

The iconic American-style truck emerging from the wall above the entrance to the legendary Garage night club on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow. One of Scotland's largest clubs, the Garage opened in 1994. However, the building it's in is much older, with part of it (G2) being housed in a Georgian mansion which was built in 1812. While the truck is currently bright yellow, it has been painted many different colours over the years. #glasgow #thegarage #sauchiehallstreet #architecture
