Today I learned that ADI aren't selling to individuals any more and have instructed all their distributors not to either.. :( So... this kinda sucks. There's now a whole lot of parts for my boards I can no longer buy.
I wonder what the workarounds for this are now..

So, about a year ago, we cancelled DirecTV, and they told us the equipment was too old to return, and we should trash it.
I just came across the stuff and pulled it apart to put the PCBs and metals into recycling. Wasn't expecting this.
Does anyone know, off the top of your head, if a "Video HDD" is functionally different from a regular HDD? Or do I have to go and find my USB/SATA adapter stuff? :-)

Heyooo, I'm Tove! I'm an old computer poker with more interests than time (autistic and probably ADHD). Some of the more recurring ones are software dev, microelectronics, whittling, knitting/crochet, reading, political science/anthropology/sociology/history/etcetc and games. Want to open an anarchist/free neighborhood electronics repair "shop" when I grow up. As a stepping stone (and while waiting for the revolution), maybe I can set up a home lab to do it from? I am terrible at social interactions and seems to have developed social anxiety in the decade or so of really bad mental health I'm just about crawling out of. Initiating contact with others is very hard for me, so might not do it often. Also, I will probably come to the conclusion that reaching out to someone makes me a bother or annoying or just too weird, so for their sake I refrain, usually. But will absolutely try to engage if others take the initiative! (Probably badly. Fair warning.) Initiate contact and you'll probably become my favourite person! Keep being the awesomeness that you are! <3

#Battery and #repair nerds, need help finding the correct(ish) battery for a device.
It's a mini Digital TV that was made like 10+ years ago and still works fine, but the battery is shot and doesn't hold a charge.
I sort of know how to read one of these batteries, but am having a hard time finding an exact match. It doesn't need to be EXACTLY the same, in fact I'd be fine with a much larger capacity battery, as long as it fits inside the compartment on the tv - and is the correct polarity, because a lot of the ones I am seeing have the red and black wires in the opposite configuration and I don't have the manual dexterity to re-wire one of these anymore.
Amazon, AliExpress, wherever, can anybody match something up to this?

Anyone know of a good smart switch that basically looks like a "normal light switch" but does not need a hole in the wall and can be stuck onto of tiles?
All "smart switches" (Zigbee or Dect) look like shit. And because I do not want to drill a hole into the wall/tiles I also cannot use a regular switch connected to e.g. a Sonoff or mini smart switch.
(I want a switch with that satisfying click that looks like the one in the picture)
Anyone an idea?
