"The name of ‘Jacob’s Well’ comes from the Jewish population of medieval Bristol’s use of this location which in turn echoes an ancient holy site in Israel. The Jewish settlement here in the 12th century also contained a cemetery beneath what is now QEH School." #Bristol https://www.bristol247.com/news-and-features/features/bristol-unique-medieval-jewish-relic/

I smell corporation #bullshit. "According to the council, the licences are needed to make sure groups using parks, such as new mums singing or elderly people walking, are suitably qualified and insured. A leading councillor repeated a denial that the licences were intended to raise money, but were instead to ensure Bristol’s parks were safe. However, it’s unclear what safety threat postnatal choirs pose." #Bristol https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/hundreds-call-u-turn-bristol-10949752

🏗️🛤️ Contracts have been signed to restore passenger rail services to #Portishead and Pill for the first time since 1964, marking a major milestone for the long-awaited scheme. Two new stations and around three miles of track will be built, with construction now under way and services expected to begin in winter 2028/29. The project, involving Morgan Sindall, Colas Rail and AmcoGiffen, will reconnect more than 50,000 people to the rail network. Backers say it will improve access to jobs, education and services while supporting economic growth across the West of #England. The line is also expected to cut travel times to #Bristol and ease road congestion. Funded by the Department for Transport and local authorities, the scheme is seen as a key step in strengthening regional transport links and encouraging sustainable development. https://news.gwr.com/news/sixty-years-in-the-making-contracts-signed-to-bring-the-railway-back-to-portishead-and-pill

Israel's shills have been hard at work in the fair city and county... "Pressure group UK Lawyers for Israel wrote to Bristol City Council after the motion was passed, saying the council could face judicial review if it acted upon the resolution. In letters to Bristol City Council and the Avon Pension Fund, which have been seen by the Local Democracy Reporting Service, UK Lawyers for Israel claimed that the motion adopted by councillors was “unlawful and invalid,” that claims of atrocities committed by Israel in Gaza were “false,” and that it would be illegal for a decision to be based on the motion." #Bristol https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/pro-israel-lawyers-put-shocking-10919692

@Shobeck@indieweb.social I have also complained to the ICO about #Bristol City Council. My last FoI to them (which was about waste management enforcement) took over a month for a response. I currently have the same request lodged with Stoke on Trent. I hope it will show how much better S-o-T is doing than its counterpart on the muddy banks of the Avon.

#Bristol Civic Society: “They will be depressing to look at and live and work among, especially in dull and damp weather. “This development requires a major redesign that results in a fresh and welcoming approach to Bristol, and is keeping with the brightness of Temple Meads. “It should not be a grim reminder of the dirty, grimy, smoke-stained buildings of industrial Britain.” https://www.bristol247.com/news-and-features/news/plans-approved-temple-island-tower-blocks/

Shorter waiting times for green man at #Bristol crossings. Why has it taken decades for something so modest and simple to be implemented? One very grudging cheer. https://www.bristol247.com/news-and-features/news/shorter-waiting-times-green-man-bristol-crossings/

"What will remain in the new configuration of the bridges are the cast iron ‘rope’ handrails on the older bridge that were saved from the original Harford’s Bridge. Along with the former Rope Walk pub (now the Dark Horse) on nearby Bedminster Parade, the ropes reflect the historical links with rope making in this area of south Bristol." #Bristol https://www.bristol247.com/news-and-features/features/hidden-design-feature-bedminster-bridge/

I took a 5 minutes stroll to the local shops - and 5 mins. back - then spent a good 15-20 minutes reporting the fly-tipping I encountered. #Bristol #TidyBS5

@StingrayBadger@zirk.us Shame there's no local government elections in my bailiwick this year. The Greens gained the most seats in last year's council elections in #Bristol.
