Algorithmic redistricting sounds like a clean fix for gerrymandering, but it’s just as vulnerable to bias as human mapmakers. The algorithm will only be fair if we hard-code transparency and clear ethical constraints from the start - otherwise it just automates the manipulation. #redistricting #algorithmicfairness #votingrights

The administration calls it a "little detour." One hundred seventy-four civilians dead. Twenty-five billion dollars. Zero congressional votes. When the past RNC chair calls it war crimes, you're not reading partisan screed—you're reading a smoke alarm. The land is keeping score. It always has. https://twp.ai/4hr1bc #Politics #War #Accountability #QueerHistory #ClimateJustice #Resistance #VotingRights #ClimateScience #SCOTUS #Democracy #TransRights #Trans #Queer #LGBTQIA+

"John Roberts life’s work of repealing the 20th century is essentially complete. What is clear about him is that he is determined to use the Supreme Court to systematically dismantle every outrage against white supremacy and oligarchy that were passed by 20th century congresses and upheld by 20th century Supreme Court majorities:" ~ Joy-Ann Reid #SupremeCourt #JohnRoberts #VotingRights #Callais #GildedAge #JimCrow #corruption /1 https://www.joyannreid.com/p/a-sunday-reid-john-roberts-corrupt

"For all the effort that Supreme Court justices put into insisting they are not 'partisan hacks,' when the Court resolves awful democracy cases, elected Republicans have remarkably little trouble understanding what they are supposed to do, and how quickly they are supposed to act." ~ Jay Willis #SupremeCourt #Callais #VotingRights #democracy #EconomicElites #corruption #Republicans /1 https://ballsandstrikes.substack.com/p/the-republican-justices-want-to-help

"The all-out sprint to make the 2026 maps at once redder and whiter lays bare the real project of the Callais majority: The Republican justices are trying to help their fellow Republicans win more elections in more places. Every seat counts." #SupremeCourt #Callais #VotingRights #democracy #EconomicElites #corruption #Republicans /2

"While the corrupt majority has consistently advanced and enforced an ideological vision of how the country should be run it has another, simpler brief: not allowing Democrats to govern when they are in power. When Republicans are in power, the powers of the presidency are almost limitless; when it’s Democrats, the office is enfeebled and hemmed in by a cobweb of invented doctrines." ~ Josh Marshall #SupremeCourt #Callais #VotingRights #corruption #Republicans /3 https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/you-can-have-democratic-self-government-or-the-corrupt-court-not-both

"When the Voting Rights Act was passed, White people in the South, and the party they adopted as theirs, the Republican Party, set out to do everything in their power to dilute and destroy the Voting Rights Act. The right of Black people to vote removed White people’s power to discriminate, so they struck back." ~ Lucian K. "The Voting Right Act of 1965, which removed the ability of governments to put in place facially neutral but clearly discriminatory practices, and in doing so ratcheted up Black registration in Louisiana until it matched White voters. This effect was immediate and enduring across the South. The VRA increased Black political representation." ~ Don Moynihan #SupremeCourt #Callais #VotingRights #democracy #EconomicElites #corruption #Republicans /7 https://donmoynihan.substack.com/p/power-democracy-and-clarity

"…which in turn increased Black economic power by opening up previously barred avenues, like public employment. ... What has been the impact of the Roberts Court on democracy? Wealthy people have more political power than everyone else. Partisan actors have more power to reduce voter choice." #SupremeCourt #Callais #VotingRights #democracy #EconomicElites #corruption #Republicans /8

When I was born, the Voting Rights Act didn’t exist yet & white & black Freedom Riders were being assassinated in the South. Little black girls were being killed in Alabama church bombings. Never could I have imagined than in only 60 years, the Supreme Court would make the hard-won Voting Rights Act no longer enforceable. That I’d see federal voting rights for blacks and abortion rights (won in 1973) for women rolled back after barely a generation. I am so disgusted by my country. #votingrights

#GiftArticle #SCOTUS kills #VotingRights The Supreme Court’s decision to upend a key provision of the #VotingRightsAct [#VRA] has plunged the nation into a dizzying new era of partisan conflict, most likely ushering in a forever #redistricting war that could produce fewer competitive seats in #Congress & further #polarize #US politics. #law #ElectionLaw #CivilRights #democracy #RepresentationMatters #authoritarianism #illiberalism #PartisanCourt #ActivistCourt https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/30/us/politics/supreme-courts-voting-rights-gerrymandering.html?unlocked_article_code=1.fFA.NAaT.LyRxcoyihmGB&smid=nytcore-ios-share

The House just voted to turn "one person, one vote" into "one person, one birth certificate, one passport, and a mountain of paperwork." The SAVE America Act isn't about "security"—it's a bureaucratic trap designed to sideline millions of eligible voters just in time for the 2026 midterms. From the "show your papers" registration mandate to the new photo ID hurdles, we've seen these suppression tactics before. https://forgottenfiles.substack.com/p/the-fine-print-of-suppression #VotingRights #SAVEAct #Democracy #2026Midterms
