To have with dinner I wanted to make dill rice (my favourite has fresh fava/broad beans beans and dill but fresh fava are out of season).

I came across an unusual recipe in Mediterranean Vegetarian Feasts, the book I love to hate*. It cooks medium grain rice in milk in the oven with dill, chilli and spring onions. So I am trying it. What can go wrong? It is like a savoury rice pudding.

There is nothing “vegetarian” about this book. It should be called Mediterranean Vegetable Dishes. And it openly discusses non-vegetarian dishes similar to many recipes. As a vegetarian I find this pretty disgusting. I don’t cook from it very often, in a silent protest.

Arvo, Toots! So far today: mental health nurse (sigh, discussion re some family stress stuff, and then a Self Care Plan - will it help? Maybe.) Lunch. Unlike the wankers in the newspaper who have their "day on a plate" analysed by a dietitian, I had considerably more than "half a dozen raspberries and some organic goat yoghurt." No, your correspondent unashamedly wolfed down half a bloody terrific avocado (because cheap and delicious), a fried egg, 4 thin slices of fried halloumi, half a lusciously ripe tomato, and I covered the lot in lemon juice. Plus a cuppa, because what's lunch without a cuppa? More work on the drawing exercises for the Portraiture Course. (More cursing, how can copying a simple exercise be so tricky?!) One exercise left to do for portraiture. Tomorrow is the first appointment with the exercise physiologist, and I know I need to do that (hello, osteoporosis!) but I really don't wanna. Gotta, but.
