This one's seriously interesting. Presence or absence of #play in adulthood among #primates is predicted by the politics! It's suppressed by 'despotic' systems: 'Adult play was not predicted by female body mass or sexual dimorphism, which are phylogenetically conserved. Social style was the key factor: tolerant species were more likely to exhibit the behaviour than despotic ones...' https://royalsocietypublishing.org/rsbl/article/22/4/20250597/481535/Despotism-trumps-phylogeny-in-explaining

@benroyce@mastodon.social “As voting closed at 7 pm, turnout stood at 77.8%…” That’s amazing. Meanwhile, in this dystopian society, that’s the percentage who can’t be bothered to vote. Here’s to changing that in 2026. 100 days before #Arizona #primates!

The deep evolutionary basis for #homosexual behaviours, seen across 1500 species -- but which species and why? In #primates, same-sex behaviours are more likely in species inhabiting drier environments with increased food scarcity and predation pressure, in species with greater #sizedimorphism and longer #lifespans and in those with more #complex social structures and hierarchies. https://phys.org/news/2026-01-scientists-reveal-homosexual-behavior-primates.html
