So Fediverse app #HolosSocial just added support for this in their latest iOS beta: "Holos Social 1.5.5 (34) Support for web+ap:// links (fedilinks): to open profiles and posts directly in Holos." This is a big milestone for a key fix myself and Sean wrote about here, to help make remote fediverse content more seemlessly available. EVERY Fediverse mobile app should support this and follow their lead. 🧵 1/2 cc: @HolosSocial@mastodon.social

A new version of #Holos has been released (1.5.5). It introduces support for "web+ap://" links (fedilinks), so profiles and posts can now be opened directly in Holos. The sync experience is also smoother with less UI freezing, and post deletion is more reliable: posts are kept locally until all remote instances confirm removal, with automatic retry on failure. #Holos 1.5.4 is available. Activity delivery now goes through the relay proxy, which fixes boost and like failures on #iOS. Sync performance is also improved. It also brings several fixes: images disappearing after posting, the iOS "No valid public key" error during setup, and the custom relay tunnel URL being ignored. https://codeberg.org/tom79/Holos-App/releases/tag/1.5.4 #HolosSocial

To TestFlight/F-Droid users for feedback, please open issues on #Codeberg: https://codeberg.org/tom79/Holos-App/issues (signup is possible with a GitHub or GitLab account). It allows replies, follow-up and avoids duplicates. Give as many details as possible. Thanks. #HolosSocial

On #Holos, the user decides where media lives. Cached on the relay (10 MB cap), or pushed to a personal S3, WebDAV. Signed URLs for private buckets, direct URLs for public ones. Video compression configurable on the device before upload. Backups and media can share storage or be separated. The architecture makes it possible: there is no instance admin to ask, and the relay holds no media beyond a temporary cache. The choice belongs to the user. #HolosSocial

#HolosSocial is a project that lets users run their own #ActivityPub server on a device (Android/iOS). Would a desktop version interest you? For purists, dynamic DNS could replace the relay entirely, which is simply not realistic on mobile. Main account: @HolosSocial@mastodon.social Your opinion?

In #Holos, timeline media has dedicated views, enabled with a single tap: one for images, one for vertical videos (TikTok style, swipe) and one for horizontal videos. What is still missing is a filter on media size. No one using these views wants to see a GIF (MP4) or a low-resolution meme. Reducing that noise will make the experience much better. This will be fixed. #HolosSocial

Tomorrow, #Holos is moving to a more powerful server. One issue identified was inactive users accumulating a large number of pending activities on the relay. The relay now detects inactive users (no connection for more than 14 days) and reduces home timeline retention to 4 hours, while all notifications (follow, mentions, DMs, etc.) are kept at their normal retention period. #HolosSocial

Something to clarify about custom domains. This feature lets you own your identity with your domain name. No one else can create an account with it, the relay verifies domain ownership through DNS before activation. If you want friends or family to have an identity on your domain, you can. As the domain owner, you control who gets one. For root domain identities, this is done through WebFinger configuration, without hosting a relay and even if people are on different relays. #HolosSocial
