@GhostOnTheHalfShell@masto.ai in fact #CableTheft at #DeutscheBahn is so rampant that they nowadays #DNA-marker the cable jackets and #Isotope-marker the #Copper in it (like #Euro|cent coins because they exceed their material value and the ECB &) DB wants to prevent people from just melting them and selling it ot to scrap merchants.
in fact many #CableThieves got arrested at scrap dealers when they tried to sell the stolen cables to said scrapyard as the operators called the police when they found out.

@vfrmedia@social.tchncs.de @GhostOnTheHalfShell@masto.ai yeah, #CableTheft for #copper is so rampant that #Ubiquiti literally advertises their P2P links under the name "#airFiber" for use in the Global South as illiterate cable thieves caise a shitton of fiber damages.
Obviously even licensed Ku-Band links cannot compete with CWDM or DWDM fibers, but still... So yeah, DNA & Isotope-marking is really common just to deny thieves the profits…
