#Colombian officials have recently authorised a plan to kill dozens of free-range #hippos that have spread across the country since being introduced by the drug cartel leader Pablo Escobar in the 1980s. The programme covers up to 80 animals and comes after other population-control efforts, including neutering, that failed to curb the herd’s growth.
These poor creatures are the victims of a government's inability and incompetence to find a more humane remedy.

Judge Orders US to Return #Colombian Woman Deported to #Congo
The unusual ruling came after the judge found that the #Trump admin had most likely violated the #law by deporting the 55-year-old woman to the African country despite its refusal to take her.
The judge ordered the admin to return the woman, Adriana Maria Quiroz Zapata to the #US, a rare instance of a judge doing so amid the admin’s #deportation campaign.
